    FAQ

    • What is bus rapid transit?
    • Bus rapid transit, known as BRT, is a high-quality bus-based transit system that delivers fast and efficient service that may include dedicated lanes, busways, traffic signal priority, off-board fare collection, elevated platforms and enhanced stations. Because BRT contains features similar to light rail transit, it is often more reliable, convenient and faster than regular bus services. With the right features, BRT is able to avoid the delays that can slow regular bus services, like buses being stuck in traffic and passengers queuing to pay on board.

    • What is a locally preferred alternative?
    • The locally preferred alternative is the transit and roadway design option that best meets the purpose, needs, goals and objectives of this project, and has been selected to advance to the next stage of design and project development.

    • How does this project differ from the East Colfax BRT Project?
    • The East Colfax BRT Project is led by Denver in partnership with Aurora, RTD, DRCOG and CDOT, and is already under construction. Once in operation, it will run from Denver Union Station to I-225 in Aurora. Learn more about East Colfax BRT on the project website. Colfax BRT Next is a separate project in the early planning phase. The project is a possible extension or connection of the East Colfax BRT Project and will connect travelers from I-225 to an eastern terminus in the vicinity of E-470.

    • What is the community’s role in this project?
    • The community’s role is essential to this project and is critical to understanding current transportation challenges along Colfax Avenue. The community will help inform the evaluation of potential alternative designs and will help shape the final locally preferred alternative.

    • How will the project incorporate community feedback?
    • The project will incorporate community feedback throughout the planning process. There will be continual opportunities to provide input, in addition to three distinct community engagement phases focused on gathering key information to inform the understanding of existing transportation conditions, evaluation of alternatives, and the final locally preferred alternative.
