Project overview
Commerce City is approximately 36.4 square miles with the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge essentially splitting the city into two parts, the Core City and the North Range.
The goal of this study is to identify microtransit solutions for everyone living and/or traveling in the Core City where people often lack dependable transportation. This study will also look at feasibility of connections to the North Range.
Commerce City applied for RTD Partnership Grant funding in 2025 but ultimately decided that it was best to conclude this study before beginning a microtransit pilot. This allows for more robust community engagement and analysis to set up a future pilot for success.
What is microtransit?
Microtransit may also be thought of as a local shuttle. This can help people get to from where they need to go when other forms of transportation are not available. Often these shuttles don't have a set route or schedule but provide on-demand service to people living or traveling within a specific area known as a zone. In this study, a recommended zone for the potential shuttle to operate will be determined based on technical analyses, community feedback, and available funding.
