About the project

The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) is currently updating the 2050 Metro Vision Regional Transportation Plan Coordinated Transit Plan. Once complete, the plan will establish a framework for coordination among transit agencies, human service agencies, member governments and other associated transportation providers. The project study area is shown here:

Plan purpose

Transit is a critical component of the Denver region’s multimodal transportation network. It enables residents and visitors to access jobs, education, healthcare, shopping, and recreational opportunities - connections that are especially necessary for older adults, people with disabilities, and veterans.

The purpose of the Coordinated Transit Plan is to provide a blueprint that helps improve mobility for older adults, individuals with disabilities, low-income individuals, and others with mobility challenges.

Plan components

Through the plan, DRCOG identifies existing service providers, forecasts service gaps, and identifies strategies to address mobility needs. The Coordinated Transit Plan also addresses Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirements, including:
  • Service inventory

Identification and description of current transportation providers (public, private, and nonprofit).

  • Needs and gaps assessment

Identify and assess transportation needs for individuals with disabilities and older adults.

  • Coordination strategies

Identify specific activities and approaches that improve coordination among transportation providers to facilitate a more connected and accessible transportation network.

  • Plan implementation

Provide guidance on how to implement the presented strategies, activities, and recommendations based on available resources, time, and feasibility.
